In 2024 two Science Graduates - Kita Capelle and Belannia Seymour working at the Nauru Hospital successfully completed the Graduate Diploma of Clinical Microbiology course.

A site visit was requested by the Laboratory Manager, Shanyko Benjamin and endorsed by Director of Medical services Dr Susana Nakalevu in July 2024.
In a full and busy week, all aspects of microbiology specimen collection, testing and reporting were explored.
Meetings were also had with hospital doctors, nurses, IPC staff, pharmacy and IT, to fully understand the system in Nauru and the challenges faced.

A key focus moving forward will be maintaining good basic practices as a foundation to build on.
